In 2008, Sterling was the first printer in the world to install two Heidelberg Speedmaster XL105 presses.
Most work runs on these presses at a top speed of 15000 sph. Makeready times have been halved and paper waste reduced dramatically (with all the environmental benefits this brings). Inpress Colour Control, which automates colour and register, means only around 200 makeready sheets per job are required. Intellistart press software reduces set up times still further.
Effectively each of these machines do the work of two ‘conventional’ presses, meaning that Sterling has dramatically increased its capacity and its power to deliver cost effective print at speed. This has meant significant growth in some key accounts as well as driving new business wins over 2008/09.
Sterling are one of only seven companies in the world to have integrated our press and MIS partners; Heidelberg, Man Roland and Tharstern, with a completely automated workflow system.
Our litho print capability, combined with colour and mono digital presses, give us not only significant capacity but also the flexibility to provide a wide range of solutions depending on the target audience, print run and stock requirements.
Full quality control systems, accredited to BS EN ISO 9001:2000 run through every stage of production – from pre press through print, finishing, storage and dispatch.
Our success to date has been a direct result of our ongoing investment programme and a belief in obtaining maximum productivity through innovation and technology.
Capital investment in2008 alone exceeded £7m. Not only does this keep Sterling ahead of the competition, but it is almost unprecedented in the industry at this time.
